These works are experiments in shellac and pigment, exploring the natural beauty and translucency of butterfly wings. Using recycled board, she makes a comment on how we must re-use and recycle to help protect the endangered butterflies and their habitats. Butterlies are also symbols for the soul, Psyche in Greek mythology, and these works study the meaning of colour in relation to our own souls, and consequent metamorphosis through our life cycle as we ‘emerge’, like the butterfly from its cocoon. The titles of these works take words and inspiration from Keats’ poem, ‘Ode To Psyche’, and butterfly names.
